Electric Bike FAQs
What makes an electric bike good?
A good e-bike has a smooth, reliable motor, a battery with enough range for your rides and a frame that fits you. It's also worth choosing one that's safety certified and comes from a shop that can service it down the road.
How do you charge an electric bike?
Plug the charger that came with your e-bike into a regular wall outlet, then connect it to the battery either on the bike or taken off. Charge it somewhere dry at room temperature and unplug it once it's full.
Do you need a license for an electric bike?
No, in New York and Pennsylvania you don't need a license or registration for a standard e-bike, but you do need to be 16 or older to ride one.
Are electric bikes street legal?
Yes, in New York and Pennsylvania standard e-bikes can ride on roads and in bike lanes, just like a regular bike. In New York, the faster Class 3 e-bikes are only allowed in New York City, and towns and parks can set their own rules, so check where you plan to ride.
